Work has begun on a major and complex engineering project within the Piadena-Mantua railway line doubling construction site, commissioned by RFI Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, with Italferr S.p.A. overseeing the works.
This bridge will span the Dugale Tagliata canal between Piadena and Tornata. It will replace the old structure near the station, allowing double-track trains.
The bridge, a metal lattice structure, will be 68 meters long and consist of a single span, which will be the longest of all the viaducts to be built, even longer than those over the Oglio River.
Specifically, work has begun on the diaphragm walls, reinforced concrete walls that will form the bridge’s foundations, reaching a depth of almost fifty meters. A clamshell bucket machine is currently working in the affected construction site, digging to a depth of 48 meters.
